Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week

Fire Prevention Week is a national campaign held every October to raise awareness about fire hazards and promote education on how to prevent fires from starting in homes and businesses. Fire Prevention Week commemorates the Great Chicago Fire of October 8-10th 1871. NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) has sponsored Fire Prevention Week since its inception in 1911.

Did you know that a small fire can become life-threatening in just minutes? That’s why early detection is key. Our advanced fire detection systems offer the best protection, alerting you to potential fire hazards before it’s too late. Modern home and office furnishings contribute to how fast a fire can burn. In 2020 Underwriters Labs performed a side-by-side burn comparison of natural vs synthetic furnished rooms. The results are dramatic. Reducing synthetics and plastics from homes and installing and testing smoke detectors is more important than ever.

What can you do during Fire Prevention Week?

  • Test your smoke detectors and fire alarms
  • Replace batteries are required
  • Plan and practice a fire escape route with your family or employees
  • Make sure fire extinguishers are easily accessible
  • Schedule a safety assessment to ensure your property is protected
